Overview

Manufacturer:

Release Date:

OS:

The Design: The familiar Samsung Galaxy all plastic design with the faux leather back cover fits well in the hand despite its size.

The Display: 5.7", Super AMOLED, 1080 x 1920 pixels, 386 ppi pixel density.

The Camera: 13MP camera, f/2.2 aperture with digital image stabilization, CMOS image sensor, back-illuminated sensor, HDR, 4K video recording @30fps, 1080p HD video recording @60fps, 2MP front-facing camera.

The Audio: The speaker is located at the bottom of the phone and produces an average sound quality and loudness.

The Call Reception & Quality: Both good.

The Battery: Capacity: 3200 mAh. Talk time: Up to 21 hours for 3G. Standby time: Up to 420 hours for 3G.

The UI Speed: Smooth and fast, with no lag even with several demanding applications open in the background.

The Overall Experience: A real phablet powerhouse with a great 5.7" screen, tons of software value-adds such as the S Pen, multi-window multitasking, air gesture and more. The battery will get all but the heaviest of users through the day, which means you won't be worrying about using your phone for things like, video, music and gaming. The camera is a very solid performer too with very good stills and the option of 4K video recording. While the build quality isn't particularly great, the impressiveness comes from what's inside the phone and right now, it is the best phablet device on the market.

Things to Consider

Though the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a modern ‘phablet’ smartphone, everyone has different preferences when it comes to what they want from a smartphone.  With that in mind, here are the top things we believe you should be aware of before buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 3:

  • The plastic body of the phone is prone to cracking and scratching if dropped, put in a pocket with metal coins or keys, or handled roughly. We therefore recommend you invest in a case and screen protector (see accessories)
  • The screen size is 5.7″ meaning that one handed use will be difficult for everyone but those with very large hands
  • The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a high-end phone and the price reflects that. The advantage of buying a high end phone such as this is that it is more future-proof i.e. has the spec to handle OS upgrades and more resource intensive apps in the future
  • The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 uses a micro-SIM
