Overview

Manufacturer:

Release Date:

OS:

The Design: Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a gorgeous metallic rim along with soft-touch polycarbonate rear. It's arguably the most beautiful Samsung smartphone.

The Display: 4.7", Super AMOLED, 1280 x 720 pixels, 312 ppi pixel density.

The Camera: 12MP camera, autofocus, LED flash, HDR, 2160p (4K) video recording @ 30 fps, 1080p full HD video recording @ 60 fps.

The Audio: The smartphone features a single speaker located at the bottom of the phone, which produces an average sound quality and loudness.

The Call Reception & Quality: Both good.

The Battery: Capacity: 1860 mAh.
Talk time: Up to 11 hours for 3G.

The UI Speed: Very smooth and fast, thanks to a powerful quad-core 1.8 GHz processor.

The Overall Experience: Customers have been waiting for a Samsung smartphone that isn't solely made of plastic for quite some time, and finally - it's here. The metallic rim and slim form factor make Samsung Galaxy Alpha very pleasant to hold, and thanks to a reasonably sized display, most people will be able to use the device with one hand. Speaking of the display, it would have been better if Samsung opted for a 1080p screen instead of 720p, but that would most likely decrease the already unimpressive battery life.

The performance is quite smooth, which makes for a great user experience. Camera is surprisingly good, and it can even capture 4K video at 30 fps. Samsung Galaxy Alpha is definitely a very good phone, and it'd be a great buy if it was a little bit cheaper.

Positives

Beautiful and lightweight design, solid camera, good performance.

Negatives

No microSD card slot, TouchWiz UI could be better, battery is not that impressive, pricey.

How To Buy

Things to Consider

Though the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is a modern smartphone, everyone has different preferences when it comes to what they want from a smartphone. With that in mind, here are the top things we believe you should be aware of before buying the Samsung Galaxy Alpha:

  • Although the rim is made out of metal, the device features a polycarbonate rear, which is┬áprone to scratching if dropped, put in a pocket with metal coins or keys, or handled roughly. We therefore recommend you invest in a case and screen protector (see accessories below)
  • Unlike most other Samsung phones, Galaxy Alpha doesn’t have a microSD card slot. This means that you can’t expand the smartphone’s storage
  • The Samsung Galaxy Alpha uses a nano-SIM
