Overview

Manufacturer:

Release Date:

OS:

The Design: All plastic design that has thin bezels so not too big to hold despite its screen size.

The Display: 5.5", IPS LCD, 1080 x 1920 pixels, 401 ppi pixel density.

The Camera: 13MP camera, f/2.4 aperture with image stabilization, HDR, 1080p full HD video recording @30fps, 2.1MP front-facing camera.

The Audio: The speaker is located at the bottom of the phone and produces an average sound quality and loudness.

The Call Reception & Quality: Both good.

The Battery: Capacity: 3140 mAh. Talk time: Up to 21 hours for 3G. Standby time: Up to 550 hours for 3G.

The UI Speed: Smooth and fast, with no lag even with several demanding applications open in the background.

The Overall Experience: A real performance phablet with a great 5.5" screen and lots of useful software features and customization options. The battery will get all but the heaviest of users through the day, which means you won't be worrying about using your phone for things like video, music and gaming. The camera is a very solid performer too, both for still and video. While the phone doesn't look particularly great and the lack of expandable storage means we would definitely recommend the 32GB over the 16GB option, the impressiveness comes from what's inside the phone and right now, Android phones don't get much better than this.

Though the LG Optimus G Pro is a modern smartphone, everyone has different preferences when it comes to what they want from a smartphone. With that in mind, here are the top things we believe you should be aware of before buying the LG Optimus G Pro:

  • The plastic body of the phone is prone to cracking and scratching if dropped, put in a pocket with metal coins or keys, or handled roughly. We therefore recommend you invest in a case and screen protector (see accessories)
  • The screen size is 5.5″ meaning that one hand use will be difficult for everyone but those with very large hands
  • The LG Optimus G Pro is a high-end phone and the price reflects that. The advantage of buying a high end phone such as this is that it is more future-proof i.e. has the spec to handle OS upgrades and more resource intensive apps in the future
  • The LG Optimus G Pro uses a micro-SIM
